Have you ever thought about how things have changed over the years? Something this is common in education is the projector. Teachers use to use an overhead projector and now we use a projector that is connected to the computer. The projector has changed over the years and the way it is being used. ![]() This is a film projector of 1925. ![]() Todays projector that we connect to the computer. The projector is something I use daily in my classroom. It is a great piece of technology to have when teaching. There are so many things that you can displace to your students when teaching a lesson. Projectors are not just for movie theaters to show movies on the big screen.
If you have a smart board a projector can make a lesson interactive for the studnets. Next to a computer a teacher should have a projector as another piece of technology in the classroom. Have you ever thought about the standards for technology? ISTE have created standards for teachers using technology in the classroom. Those Standards are:
1. Facilitate and inspire studnet learning and creavtivity 2. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments 3. Model digital age work and learning 4. Promote and model digital citenship and responsibilty 5. Engage in professional growth and leadership These standards can be found at iste.org/standards With standards in place it tells teachers what they can and can't do in the classroom. With technology it opens up another world to learning. Technology is growing and changing everyday. We live in a digital world and should teach our studnets the proper ways to use the technology they are given. Let the creativity show with their work, there are so many posibilties to learning. Are you the type of person that is always taking photos? Do you ever backup the photo on your phone or devices so you don't loose them? I have had a phone crash in the past and loose all of my photos that was on it. If you have a iphone you have the cloud that backs your phones up but how do you ge them off the cloud? Another thing that you can use to back up photos is google photo, shutterfly, and other photo storage apps and sites. With these sites you can also access your pictures from any where so you can print them.
Bulletin Boards for Science Fair and Science Night. The Keep Calma nd do Science letter are found on teacher pay teacher.
2nd Grade students learn how to copy and paste pictures.
Copy pictures from google and paste into a word document. The also learn how to change font and the size in a word document. We used these skills to make a Christmas Greeting Card. Kindergarten creates a computer using a file folder to learn the parts of a computer. Students can take the folder home and practice learning the letters on the keyboard. This is a great tool for students to use to learn red words.
I teach in a computer lab at a kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school. In a weeks’ time, I see about 650 students. Students learn how to type on the keyboard using programs like typing.com, ABCYA.com keyboard zoo, dance mat typing, and kidz type. Students also learn how to do coding through code.org.
The first thing that students learn is the parts of a computer, how to use each part, and what each part is for. Kindergarten makes a computer out of a file folder to learn the parts and to practice with it at home. Not all students have computers at home so I send home copies of keyboards to help students learn the keys. We have a color coded keyboard on the wall that shows what keys to type with want fingers. This is how we color our keyboard sheets to take home to help learn the keyboard. Technology is important for students to learn because we live in a digital world. They are used to playing on phones. Tablets, and game systems but some never operate a computer until they start schools. We find that Kindergarten doesn’t know how to use a mouse because they think everything is touch screen. So the first thing they learn is what the buttons on the mouse are for and what one to use. The mice I have are color coded with blue stickers on the left click and yellow stickers on the right click. There is even a large mouse on my wall for reference. Websites I use Typing.com Kidztype.com Dance Mat Typing (BBC Bite size) code.org ABCYA.com Mobymax.com |
